Indian Chief Dark Horse: The Smooth Performer

Being identical to the Standard Indian Chief, Indian Chief Dark Horse is built on a steel tube frame and entails a gloss-black finish. The simple and minimalist design represents the glory days of American motorcycling.

The traditional mirrors and massive tyres give the feel of a retro bike look.

The Dark Horse has a stripped-down design and sleek mechanical styling with black detailing all around. The purposeful design exhibiting bobbed fenders, exposed rear shocks and the steel tube frame makes it more appealing and adds to its vintage style.

The drag handlebars and mid-mount foot controls provide confidence in handling the bike. And the slim headlight bucket, 19-inch cast wheels and the solo low bobber seat (662 mm) work to provide a comfortable riding experience and complete control.

The Indian Chief Dark Horse gets powered by an 1890 cc air-cooled Thunderstroke 116 engine. The bike has a closed-loop fuel injection system, a bore and stroke of 103.2mm x 113mm and a compression ratio of 11:1.

The engine can produce a max torque of 162 Nm @ 3200 rpm. It also has a claimed mileage of 20kmpl.

The engine provides a soul-satisfying groan as it comes to life, with its vibrations as well. The rider’s fatigue is reduced with the help of the new slipper clutch making the shifting experience more comfortable and smooth.

One of the most noticeable features of Indian Chief Dark Horse is the RIDE COMMAND System, a feature added to the bike that helps riders to connect their phone via Bluetooth or USB.

The grip control or the IPS digital IPS touchscreen display aids in operating the RIDE COMMAND. The 4-inch touchscreen display is for a classic aesthetic and displays the speed, turn-by-turn navigation, answering or declining calls, and managing music, and it also helps control the ride modes.

With the RIDE COMMAND, rides can see phone information like number pad, recent calls, contacts, and messages.

The wireless helmet communicator can help control the music and give navigation details with the RIDE COMMAND.

The Chief Dark Horse sees several premium specifications, including LED lighting, USB charging port, keyless ignition, Pirelli Night Dragon Tires, etc.

For increased comfort and based on the requirement, the rider can choose between three ride modes, namely Tour, Standard and Sport, which helps personalise riding style.

The transmission setup in Indian Chief Dark Horse consists of a 6-speed manual and belt drive gear system.

The suspension setup at the front comprises 46 mm telescopic forks, offering a suspension travel of 132mm. The rear suspension consists of dual shocks with adjustable preload, offering a suspension travel of 75mm. The ergonomics and the suspension ensure full comfort to the rider while making the ride as smooth as possible.

Braking duties are performed by a 300 mm semi-floating rotor and single 4-piston calliper brakes at the front, and for the rear, it gets a 300 mm floating rotor and single 4-piston calliper. The ABS provides excellent stopping power, so the rider is confident.
