“All New Super Sport Motorcycle in Town”
According to the sources that are out today has confirmed that the entry-level super-sport, the KTM RC 125, will be launched June 2019. KTM realized the need for the RC 125 after the overwhelming response of the Duke 125. The fully-faired motorcycle’s Indian version will be a bit different from the International-spec of RC125.
The manufacturer would price the RC 125 competitively. The deliveries of baby RC will commence from July onwards. Yamaha R15 V3.0 will be the main contender in this segment.
Thoughts about RC 125
KTM is already dominating one part of the sub-200cc segment with the Duke 125. Once launched, they may eventually dominate the sporty segment as well. The RC is one of the best sport-style models available in the country. There will be few changes made to the India-spec RC 125. The bike will get an underbelly exhaust rather than a side mounted one. Good to see KTM expanding the RC line. It’s about time!
So, the introduction of the KTM RC125 will just be an exercise where KTM will have to get the required regulatory approvals, and simply produce more of the motorcycle for the Indian market. With the RC 125, KTM will be looking to achieve a similar level of success, but the numbers are likely to be slightly lower than that of the Duke 125. The idea behind the Duke and RC125 is to get younger buyers into the KTM brand, and move them to the brand’s bigger bikes in the years to come.
With the thought of spontaneity mechanically, the bike will sport the same 124.7 cc single-cylinder engine, DOHC, liquid-cooled motor, as the Duke 125, that put together 14.5 HP and 12 Nm of torque. Like the Duke 125, the RC 125 will derive its trellis chassis, WP suspension system, rims, tyres and equipment from the RC 200 and RC 390 variants. Key changes will include styling and ergonomics. While this the KTM has an upright riding position, the KTM RC 125 will have a much more aggressive and track-focused rider triangle. It will be a part of allocation with the same suspension setup and the same brake apparatus as its sibling. This also means that the bike will trench Dual Channel ABS for a single-channel unit.
The KTM RC 125 is expected to be priced at a premium of about Rs 20,000 over the Duke 125 which is currently on sale at Rs 1.25 lakh. The fully-faired RC 125 is expected to be priced around Rs 1.30 lakh to Rs 1.45 lakh. At that price point, it would be the most expensive 125 cc offering in the country by some margin but for that money one gets premium hardware and a razor sharp package. The pricing of RC 125 will be climactericas the more powered and popular Yamaha R15 is priced at Rs 1.39 lakh. The entry-level RC emerges an excellent learning platform for budding motorcycle enthusiasts.
