TVS Star City Plus is a premium commuter bike with designer styling and great features. It got launched to boost India’s third-largest bike maker TVS Motor Company’s motorbike portfolio, and mainly targeted young urban riders.
The bike got unveiled for the first time at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. It then got launched as an updated version of TVS Star City. Its premium looks, good specifications, and new features made it an instant hit among urban commuters.
Its brand image received a big boost after cricketing legend and 2011 world cup-winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the brand ambassador.
Since its rollout, the motorcycle underwent several changes to evolve as one of the best-selling models in the segment.
In 2014, the company launched the motorbike with new colour options and additional features. It received the Synchronized Braking Technology (SBT) in 2018.
In 2020, the BS6 version of Star City Plus, equipped with the company’s patented Ecothrust fuel injection technology, launched in the market.
In March 2021, it received two major updates—a disc brake variant got introduced, and it came in a new colour—Pearl Blue-Silver. It currently is available in three variants and seven colour options. It carries a price tag of Rs. 67,225 and Rs. 69,725 (ex-showroom Mumbai).
The latest version of the bike aims to give the commuter biking segment a new and sophisticated look and feel.
TVS Star City Plus BS6 comes with the following new features.
Powering the new Star City bike is a 109.7cc BS6 fuel-injected engine mated to a four-speed constant mesh transmission that churns out a maximum power of 8.08 bhp (6.03PS) at 7,500rpm and a max torque of 8.7 Nm at 4,500rpm.
The new Ecothrust fuel-injected powertrain produces a marginally lower power and torque compared to the BS4 engine.
The motorcycle accelerates from 0-60kmph in 7.6 seconds and can clock a maximum 85-90kmph speed.
The ARAI-tested fuel efficiency in ideal conditions gets claimed to be 86kmpl; however, the actual TVS Star City mileage of 75-80kmph is 15% more fuel-efficient than the previous BS4 model.
The sporty commuter bike gets built on a single cradle frame linked to a pair of telescopic front forks with five-step adjustable hydraulic shockers at the rear.
In the base variant, the braking duties get performed by a pair of 110 mm drum brakes at the front and rear wheels assisted by the Synchronized Braking Technology. The top variant gets a disc brake at the front.
The TVS Star City Plus looks like a sleek and sporty street bike, but it comes under the commuter segment owing to its specifications and functionalities.
The most striking feature is its all-new LED headlight (integrated with a pair of side indicator lights), making it the first bike in its segment to feature one. A pair of black rearview mirrors give a wide-angle view of the road behind.
The 10-litre chiselled fuel tank sports the company’s logo, sporty decals and gets attractively shaped. The long dual-tone seat gets made of high-quality material and contrast stitching to give a comfortable riding experience.
Speaking of riding experience, the seat height of 785 mm makes it accessible to a wide range of riders of varying heights. The soft-touch switchgear also makes changing gears effortless. The rear footpegs and grab rail also give comfort and safety to pillion riders.
Just below the rear grab rail, a set of sleek tail lamps and indicator lights gets fitted. The exhaust pipe is slightly upswept and shielded with a superior stainless-steel muffler that beautifully complements the coloured shock absorbers. The all-black alloy wheels add style to the bike.
The bike comes in three variants:
The bike comes in seven colour options:

The features such as the all-LED headlamp, bikini fairing, stainless-steel exhaust shield, blacked-out alloy wheels, aluminium grab rail, among others, make it look that way.
Performance-wise, the bike’s 109.7 cc BS6 powertrain gives a decent power of 8.08 bhp and 8.7 Nm of torque, while the ETFi (Ecothrust fuel ignition) technology enhances fuel efficiency by 15%.
All the variants get equipped with an electric start, which means riders will start the bike with just a press of a button.
The accelerator is smooth, and so are the brakes, which are easy to grip.
The dual braking system assisted by the Synchronized Braking Technology (the TVS’s term for the combined braking system) enables the rider to decelerate or stop smoothly. The disc brake in the top variant gives even better braking performance.
The suspension duties get carried out by telescopic forks and hydraulic shock absorbers linked to the motorcycle’s single cradle frame.
So, the suspension, along with the dual-tone rexine seat, provides greater comfort to both rider and passenger. The rear footpegs and aluminium grab rail give good support to the pillion.
