TVS XL100 Heavy Duty is a multi-utility and multi-terrain heavy-duty moped built to carry bulky luggage and cargo. It is the only moped to be manufactured by a renowned two-wheeler manufacturer in India- TVS.
It targets the people who need a vehicle to carry heavy loads and gets hugely popular in rural India.
The multi-utility moped comes with a durable build and can carry up to 130 kg of weight, almost 1.5 times its kerb weight of 89 kg. So, it makes The TVS XL 100 ideal as a delivery service vehicle in urban and rural regions.
It gets a design that’s functional and rugged.
The moped is an extension of TVS XL Super, which got first introduced in 1980. Since then, it has evolved a lot technologically. It comes with a lot of modern features in the same time-tested and reliable, robust frame.
For instance, in 2018, the company introduced an electric-start variant of the moped. It was then made available with a retro-fitment kit for differently-abled people in 2019. In 2020, TVS launched TVS XL100 with a BS6 Ecothrust fuel-injected (ETFi) engine that enhanced its mileage.
In April 2021, TVS launched a special Winner Edition to commemorate the moped’s 40th anniversary.
ETFi BS6 engine: The new TVS XL100 gets fitted with an Ecothrust fuel injection (ETFi) engine that complies with BS-VI norms.
Powering the moped is a 99.7cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine mated to an automatic single-speed gearbox that churns out a maximum power of 4.3bhp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 6.5Nm at 3500rpm.
It gives a mileage of about 67kmpl, which is 15% higher than the previous model thanks to the TVS patented Ecothrust fuel-injected (ETFi) mill. The moped can touch a top speed of 60 to 65 km.
The TVS heavy-duty moped comes in both kickstart variants and electric start ones. It gets a centrifugal wet clutch and an ignition of Flywheel Magneto 12V, 200W at 5000rpm.
The TVS XL Heavy Duty gets built on a solid frame structure linked at the front to a telescopic spring hydraulic and a swing arm hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. Braking duties are handled by an 80mm front drum and 100mm rear drum.
The kerb weight of the moped is 89 kg, and it gets a four-litre fuel tank. It is 1895 mm long, 670 mm wide, and 1077 mm tall. It has a ground clearance of 158 mm and has a seat height of 787 mm. Rolling the heavy-duty moped is a pair of 2.50-16 41L 6PR section tyres.
It has the design of a classic moped. Between the high raised handlebars feature a halogen headlight integrated with a pair of side indicator lights. On top of it, a monopod instrument cluster gets equipped that has a speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge.
Just like that of the iconic mopeds Kinetic Luna and TVS XL Super, the fuel tank of TVS XL100 is located just below the headlight and comes with a capacity of four litres. The 99cc engine gets fitted under the floorboard.
The seat height is 787 mm, and the split seat gets designed to give a comfortable ride. The rear seat can also get removed to double up as a carrier. A pair of footpegs gets provided for the riders as the floorboard helps to carry luggage. The pillion gets a grab rail and a pair of footpegs.
The rear gets a halogen taillamp and a pair of side indicators. Rolling the moped is a pair of spoke wheels, which remain with it as a constant companion for the last four decades. An all-black exhaust and the finish for the engine bay contrast nicely with all colour options, except black.
The TVS XL100 Heavy Duty is available in five variants:
The colour options in which the moped is available are:
Halogen headlamp: The moped features a halogen headlamp that gives a straight beam of light.
A monopod instrument cluster: The instrument cluster has a speedometer, an odometer, and a fuel gauge with a low fuel warning indicator but does not have a tachometer.
Halogen tail lamp: It lights up when the rider applies brakes to halt or slow down.
Split seat: The rear passenger seat is removable, and it doubles up as a luggage or goods carrier.
Synchronised Braking Technology: The moped comes with TVS Synchronized Braking Technology, the company’s term for the combined braking system.
Engine kill switch: The switch gets helpful in heavy traffic. It lets the rider shut the engine off without turning the lights or horn off.
Pass switch: The rider can use the switch before overtaking any other vehicle.
Passenger footrest and grab rail: Although the vehicle gets designed as a cargo two-wheeler, it also features various passenger-friendly features, such as a passenger footrest and a grab rail.
With a sturdy frame and an excellent load-carrying capacity, TVS XL100is built to get used as an everyday workhorse that can ride through different topography.
It is suitable for small businesses that need an affordable vehicle to transport their goods. Although the moped is available in five different variants, each has the Ecothrust fuel-injected engine that gives good efficiency and power delivery.
Looks-wise, nothing substantial has changed compared to the previous models of the moped. But in terms of specifications and features, the vehicle has changed a lot.
The raised handlebars and the seat height of 787 mm make riding comfortable. The 99.7cc engine produces a maximum power of 4.3 bhp and a peak torque of 6.5 Nm, well enough for a compact goods carrier.
The four-litre fuel tank can sustain the moped for nearly 268 km on a full refill. The middle space between the fuel tank and the seat gets designed to hold heavy luggage.
The rear seat can get removed to keep even more luggage. Although the load-carrying capacity gets rated at 130 kg, the moped can carry much more weight above that.
The brakes and clutch are smoother than the previous models, and some variants come with an electric start button, which eliminates the time and energy wasted on kick-starting the vehicle.
The suspension duties get handled by telescopic spring hydraulic and swing arm hydraulic shock absorbers.
The moped runs with the help of TVS Eurogrip 2.50-16 6PR 41L RIB PLUS tyres provide excellent balance and grip.
