Malshej Ghats are located in the Western Ghats. One can observe the nature’s beauty at its best. During monsoons visitors can enjoy the beautiful waterfalls at various spots. There are few waterfalls on the road itself while driving on the ghats. This fascinates the visitors and turns out to be an enjoyable spot. Malshej Ghat has sharp twists and turns which fascinates riders and challenges them to undertake a thrilling journey. In winters these ghats are covered with dense fog all around. The nature is at its best during this time period. This makes the journey of a biker more calm and soothing. Due to sharp turns and uneven roads it is not advisable to carry out a night time journey on this route. The foggy climate in winters lowers the clear vision making it difficult for riders to get accurate judgment of the route.


Option 1: Mumbai – Thane – Murbad – Sawarne – Malshej Ghat

Being a ghat the route is filled with highs and lows and is a demanding one. The ride through the route is not a cake walk. The rider should drive carefully and beware of the sharp turns.


Option 2: Mumbai – Kolegaon – Badlapur – Murbad – Sawarne – Malshej Ghat

  • Ending point: Aurangabad (Maharashtra)
  • Via: MH SH 80, NH61
  • Distance: 134 Kms

The route is a mountainous one along with a challenging ride. The route passes through Karjat-Murbad Road.


Option 3: Mumbai – Vashi – Vasar – Deope – Sawarne – Malshej Ghat

  • Starting point: Kurla (Mumbai, Maharashtra)
  • Ending point: Aurangabad (Maharashtra)
  • Via: Palm Beach road, MH SH 80, NH61
  • Distance: 149 Kms
  • Duration: Approx. 4 Hrs

The following route passes through Palm Beach Road. The twists and turns after Sawarne have to be taken care of by the riders, to reach the destination. The challenging route may excite the riders and rise the adrenaline rush in them, but the safety should always be given a first preference.


Pimpalgaon Joga Dam is situated at a distance of 5 km from Malshej Ghat. Beautiful backwaters are the spot of attraction on the dam. Many migratory birds are found here along with the beautiful flamingos. At a distance of 6 km from Malshej Ghat a famous spot for trekking, Harishchandragad Fort is situated. Trekking, rappelling, and other adventure sport lovers can experience all of them on this fort.

The birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, ‘Shivneri Fort’ is at a distance of approximately 40km from Malshej Ghat. The dense foggy view enhances the beauty of the ghat and makes it a perfect photographic location. The drive on the ghats is a beautiful and memorable one. The thrilling riders who wish to explore something out of the monotonous and simple routes opt for Malshej Ghats. A lot of migratory birds are seen here in the months from July to September.
