Historical Background

Lansdowne was previously known as ‘Kaludanda‘, meaning ‘Black Hill’ in Garhwali. Which was later named as Lansdowne in honor of Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne, in the year 1857, the Garhwal Rifles Regiment of the armed forces had their coaching center set up here in Lansdowne.
